In September 2017, coupled with the 15th Workshop of the Conference of the Institutions for Women's and Gender Studies in the German-speaking area (KEG), the first joint conference "Current Challenges in Gender Studies" of the specialist societies for gender studies from  Germany, Austria and  Switzerland took place at the University of Cologne.

Both conferences were hosted, co-designed and organizationally managed by the central scientific institution Gender Studies in Cologne (GeStiK) of the University of Cologne.
